Markus completed his bachelor of law in Switzerland before earning his master of law in Vancouver, Canada, in 2004. During his studies, he focused on international criminal law and criminology, along with international intellectual property and cross-border legal assistance among governmental bodies. Initially, he pursued an academic career, teaching criminal law and criminology at a university. In 2007, he transitioned to the corporate sector, working within one of the world's largest franchise systems. He later joined a major retailer and then took a position with a venture capital impact investor. In 2022, he became the founder of legal consulting firm treemark®, leveraging his extensive legal expertise.

- Creating and leading the EMEA Legal Department, managing 4 offices and 24 legal professionals.
- Brand transformation and digitalization initiatives.
- Implementation of an IP and Brand Protection System.
- Management of arbitration and litigation for 312 cases, achieving a 92% success rate.
- Leading the implementation of GDPR compliance.
- End-to-end creation and maintenance of bespoke contracts, including IT sourcing, systems, outsourcing, service and supply, third-party logistics, distribution, as well as franchise and agency agreements.
